BTCCSquare news:

The U.S. Treasury Department has escalated its crackdown on North Korea's cyber infiltration efforts, sanctioning two individuals and four entities linked to malicious IT operations targeting cryptocurrency companies. The move underscores growing regulatory scrutiny of illicit funding channels in the digital asset space.

Sanctioned individuals include Song Kum Hyok, a North Korean national with alleged ties to Pyongyang's Reconnaissance General Bureau, and Russian citizen Gayk Asatryan. OFAC alleges Song created fake identities using stolen U.S. personal data to place DPRK workers in crypto-related positions, while Asatryan's Russia-based companies reportedly employed dozens of North Korean IT specialists.

These operations allegedly funneled earnings back to North Korea's sanctioned weapons programs through state-controlled trading companies Korea Songkwang Trading Corporation and Korea Saenal Trading Corporation, both now blacklisted by OFAC. The sanctions reflect ongoing concerns about nation-state actors exploiting cryptocurrency's pseudonymous nature for sanctions evasion.
